A sole trader does not have to arrange occupational health care. If you do, Kela reimburses 50–60 % of the costs when you have YEL or MYEL insurance.
The condition for reimbursement is a valid occupational health care agreement, a workplace survey and an action plan based on it. Only on top of this are medical appointments reimbursable occupational health care.
For a sole trader the survey is light. We talk about your work, workload and risks, at the clinic or remotely. After that you get to a doctor quickly when you are ill.
As an entrepreneur you carry responsibility for many things at once. Your own wellbeing easily comes last.
Besides workload, I look at recovery, sleep and energy. Hormonal changes, the menstrual cycle, perimenopause and menopause can also affect work ability. You can talk about them in occupational health care too.

Every employer in Finland must arrange preventive occupational health care for its employees. The duty applies from the first employee. Medical care is voluntary, the preventive part is not.
The workplace survey is the basis of preventive occupational health care. I visit the workplace and look at the work, the premises and the working methods. I assess workload and hazards and record what should be addressed first. You get a written report.
In a small company the survey is usually light. An occupational health action plan is drawn up on the basis of the survey.

The workplace survey is billed by the hour: physician 200 €/h, nurse 95 €/h (VAT 0 %). No set-up fee. Preventive occupational health care belongs to Kela reimbursement class 1. Kela reimburses the employer part of the approved costs. An entrepreneur is reimbursed for their own occupational health care when they have YEL or MYEL insurance.
When a new employee starts, the required health examination is done within the same week. No queues. The clinic is in Kamppi, on Eteläinen Rautatiekatu.
